PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
