From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in search of the traitor.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to form the Questers and Planners tables.
Fans can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
